Project Description

Neuromuscular Dentistry

During a lifetime, teeth are subjected to wear and tear. Chewing, dental work, clenching and grinding are some situations that can alter the shape and size of your teeth. Instead of treating just one area, neuromuscular dentistry assesses and treats the teeth, muscles, and joints as one unit.

Over time, the constant wearing away of tooth structure can and will alter the natural occlusion of teeth. Teeth that don’t fit together properly put added stress on the muscles and joints used in opening and closing your mouth. Many people with worn away teeth and overworked muscles and joints will develop painful conditions such as TMD (temporalmandibular disorder), migraine headaches, and ringing in the ear, to name a few.

Your trained neuromuscular dentist will discuss with you a treatment plan that aims to relieve you of your concerns while maintaining an esthetically beautiful smile.

Treatment of the neuromuscular patient begins with an assessment. Once it is determined that a neuromuscular approach is the best option for you, you will be further evaluated with a series of computer scans that help Dr. Kali pinpoint problem areas.

To achieve a proper bite your muscles will need to be relaxed. This is done by TENSing, which is the same technique used by physiotherapists to relax tired and tense muscles.

The final stage is a full mouth reconstruction. Depending on your treatment plan, your lower teeth will be fitted with a temporary orthotic as a trial of the newly adjusted neuromuscular bite (occlusion). Once it is determined that a proper occlusion has been achieved, permanent veneers will be placed by bonding onto upper and lower teeth.

Invisalign is a clear aligner that are orthodontic devices and are transparent, in a plastic form. These are used for the same purpose as “traditional braces” you’ve likely seen before. Invisalign is a great option for anyone looking to straighten their teeth and improve their overall smile. Many people chose Invisalign over braces because it is easier to continue your day-to-day oral health care routine, rather than have a permanent brace covering the majority of your tooth.

Here is a list of beneficial reasons to use Invisalign; Invisible Appearance, Comfort, Improved Cleanliness, Saves Time, Safe and Removable, Better Dental Health, Beautifully Straight Teeth, Shorter time period, and an overall more enjoyable experience!

With Invisalign – (typically referred to as an aligner) patients will be left with a lovely smile, and can leave knowing their teeth have been set straight, with less of a hassle than braces. Braces tend to pull on the teeth much more than Invisalign, making Invisalign aligners a much more enjoyable and easier experience. Contact us to learn more!
